News

Hoping this finds you all well and in states of awe with springtime wonders.

Production news
We have published a video trailer from a performance of 'every one everyone', November 2013. It was filmed and edited by Katelyn Stiles, dance/video artist. Please go here to view it: every one everyone, video

We are working to bring 'every one everyone' on the road. Each venue we are in dialogue with, we are proposing to conduct a workshop before, from these workshops we will invite performance assistants to participate inside the duration of the production.

In tune with springtime, the very beginnings of a new artistic work inspired from "moveable cinema" (a practice that has evolved inside my dance teaching practice Dynamic Expansion), is in development. I am working with co-operation/partner Tanzfabrik-Berlin, and sourcing other interests to realize the work for 2015.

Choreographic Facilitation
Recently
As part of the In-Zucht Festival in April, created by the dance students of the HZT Berlin, Dance BA program, I was pleased to work as a choreographic facilitator with Katharina Greimel and Marc P Gabriel in their duo Tischgespräch #1, and with Ana Jelusic for her solo Table, chair, blanket, clock......

Now
Having worked in early stages of choreographer/dancer Claudia Tomasi and musician Benjamin Tomasi's duo a year ago; vertraute Distanz (working title). I am engaging again as a facilitator. It's a powerful and sensitive duo they are creating, enveloping the space with age-old architectural pieces, sound composition, light installation and dance.

Ahead
Montreal choreographer/dancer, Caroline Laurin-Beaucage was awarded the "Choreographic Residency in Potsdam, Germany", a co-operation with fabrik Potsdam, Goethe Institute Montreal, Centre Choréographique Circuit-Est, (Mtl) and the Quebec Government Office in Berlin. Caroline invited me to contribute to her residency via my classes in the fall/winter 2014. We reconnected while she was on tour with O Vertigo dance company last year, having recalled first meeting some 15 years ago. While having shared similar thirsts for dance in the past, it will be exciting to meet her work in the present.

Teaching news
Teaching/travels were very successful recently for Dynamic Expansion in Istanbul and in Grenoble and Lyon, France. Encountering new people/places, as well as reconnecting in CDC le Pacifique, and Lieues, Lyon. Both of these places/cities I have been to on and off for some years, is both astonishing and inspiring to see how people have taken the work into their own practices.

Regular Berlin morning classes, Mondays and Thursdays run for the next two months fairly uninterrupted, check the front page of shannoncooney.org for updates.

Teaching practice Facilitator/Mentor
It is a huge and rewarding task to create a form for teaching out of somatic practices and professional/personal experiences in dance and performance. One, I myself love(d) to do, and now I have the role to facilitate this work in others. The mentoring project with Chilean dancer, and dance maker Paula Montecinos, funded by the Scholarships and Internships Fondart Project, Chile is nearing completion and her practice is now fully grounded and developing. Next month Robert Kingsbury of Guelph, Canada, supported by the Ontario Arts Council, Chalmers Award comes to Berlin, for an intensive 2-month period, furthering his creation/development of his teaching practice we are looking forward to this collaboration.

Heilpraktiker Course
Alongside production, teaching, and dance projects, I am studying for an exam in the fall 2014. The purpose of passing of this exam is to be licensed as a "Heilpraktikerin". This enables my work as a Craniosacral practitioner to be certified as 'complimentary and alternative medicine therapy' in Germany. The course is intensive, rich in information and all-encompassing.What i am learning will contribute immensely to my overall practice.

A retraining grant from the Dancer Transition Resource Centre (DTRC.ca) Toronto, Canada with whom I have been a member since 1994 has made this parallel training possible. I am very grateful on several levels for their presence and commitment in my processes over several years. They do exceptional work in providing many types of support for dancers in transition. Recently in Germany the Stiftung Tanz-Transition Zentrum Deutschland, (stiftung-tanz.com) was founded, they offer different modes of support then what I know from the DTRC, and address the German dance scenes. I fully support and recommend such organizations in their work to support dancers.

! NEW CRANIOSACRAL PRACTICE SPACE !

As of July 2014, my Craniosacral practice will be moving to a new space, at Puschkinallee 4a, 12435, Berlin. This Praxis is a part of the 'Praxis für Ergotherapie', but in a separate space of its own 'therapy/praxis'.
It is in a beautiful villa; with ground level access, and a view to a garden with fruit trees. Caroline Argent directs the 'therapy/praxis' and I am delighted to be joining at the beginning of its' conception.
I will continue to keep Mondays and Fridays as session days, with possibilities for evening sessions.
Puschkinallee is only one Kilometre from Kreuzberg Yoga, and very close to S-Bahnhof Treptower Park, from the other direction it is also close to U-bahn Schlesisches Tor with the bus '265' running requently.

It has been two lovely years in the Kreuzberg Yoga, a peaceful, bright space, and i thank studio director Nicole Daljeet Loncaric for all of her care and support.

*Classes in Dynamic Expansion on Monday mornings will continue at the Kreuzberg Yoga, only the craniosacral practice moves.
