Hoping this finds you well whether you are reflecting on the longer days of summer, or enjoying late summer’s bounty or preparing for a fall of plenty.

Updates

I have recently returned from The Canadian Wilderness Artist Residency CWAR, having spent one month in Canada’s Yukon with a curated group of 9 other artists and two guides who are also also artists. It was extraordinary and deeply inspiring.

While in Whitehorse, for the first leg of the residency, were hosted by Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society CPAWS “…Canada’s only nationwide charity dedicated solely to the protection of our public land and water, and ensuring our parks are managed to protect the nature within them”. Being a part of and witness to this deep respect of wild spaces, is one of many inspiring elements of this residency. CWAR and CPAWS have a long-standing relationship; seeing the value and crossover or art, culture and Nature.

We met local artists – both indigenous and Yukon-based artists, toured the Yukon Arts Centre, engaged in workshops and visited the celebration Haa Kusteeyí at the Carcross/Tagish Nation Learning Centre.

For 17 days we are on the Yukon River, in such an extraordinary landscape, in canoes tripping downriver from the mouth at Lake Laberge to Dawson City. Within these northern days we worked as a group to paddle, camp and created time and space for artistic exchange, for personal practices of making or reflection and for envisaging for future works.

We paddled through the Territories:Kwanlin Dün , Ta’an Kwäch’än , Little Salmon/Carmacks , Selkirk , Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in

While in Dawson City we were part of the Riverside Arts Festival, given the platform of artists’ talks we presented in Pecha Kucha-style our individual artic practices.

We were: Geoffrey Simon Brown (Playwright/Director/Actor), Caitlin English (Screenwriter/Performer), Caitlin Griffin (Dance Artist), Yvonne Hachkowski (Photographer), Kohen Hammond (Composer/Sound Engineer), Marina Hulzenga (Visual Artist/Spatial and Concept Design/Curator), Hilary Macdonald (Photographer/Archaeologist), Bettina Matzkuhn (Visual Artist/Textile Artist), Mina Raifee (Architect and Experience Designer), our guides; Adrick Brock (Writer) and Sabine Burns (Photographer). Looking very much forward to see, hear and witness the works that have been and will be created from the Yukon River.

I would highly recommend this residency if you are an artist who would be inspired by the Yukon Wilderness, enjoy travelling by canoe on a tremendous River, take energy from the social nature of a group residency and wish to deepen connection to Nature.

PROJECTS

I am currently preparing and fundraising for a new project that is scheduled to premiere in Fall 2020 in both Ottawa, and Berlin. The working title: Fluid Resilience, has influences form the fluid dy with of my craniosacral movement research, and from this magnificent River experience; embodied connection to flow, going up against flow, movements of currents, eddies, standing waves, purely  drinking this River, and learning from this body of water.

CREATIVE FACILITATION

In the coming months I will continue working one-to-one with Francesca Pedulla, in facilitating her evolving choreographic practice. She is an extraordinary woman and artist. It is both a challenge and pleasure to witness her radically question and pursue new ways to create her work.

CRANIOSACRAL Practice

Craniosacral sessions have many benefits for wellness including: deeply easing stress, deep rest for the nervous system, increased vitality, unwinding of unwanted habits, and increased general well-being. Craniosacral also has many benefits for Health including; improved eyesight/vision, reduced acute pain, rehabilitation in the neural field, learning disabilities, gross and fine motor problems, developmental delays, autism, headaches, tinnitus, TMJ syndrome, stress disorders, trauma and neurological conditions.

My work with Craniosacral work is a hybrid practice which includes  working with expanded consciousness and with Nature. I work co-creatively with each client given one's individuality and needs. Please note that some themes and issues could find resolution in one session, some in three to four sessions and others over time.
